Dead Man’s Opinion ~ Hope Dies Alone

“If you care, you do something; you don’t just hope.” — Carl Grimes — The Walking Dead

Greetings Dear Reader,

I have mentioned that I have a friend that says that hope is a four-letter word. She means it. She is cynical about almost everything. I think that it is because hope must be a product of love and faith if it is to survive. It must flow from those to things to have its foundation in anything of substance.

When we want people to hope, we are asking them to think against the natural responses to suffering, pain, and loss. There are times when it is rational for hope to die but we who follow Christ choose to hope because of the faith we have in the love of the Father. A song I have been dwelling on quite a bit of late says, “And just when their hope should be dying, instead of tears there is joy in their eyes.” (Stephen Curtis Chapman)

We are all headed toward death. The only thing that makes sense is to find hope that transcends it. We beat this dead world by refusing to despair. We conquer death by love and faith in every moment of life. I strive for this by seeking Christ in those moments. Hope is the power to endure everything because my faith and love are anchored in something greater.

If we are to find life; we must use hope. When love is directed properly at the Father, he gives us hope. When we use our faith, hope is the result. Again, we find in the prime directive to love the Father all that we need to carry us through life. We cannot simply hope. It must be the product of active love to the Father and to every human.

When you consider the alternative, Dear Reader, it seems foolish not to hope. It seems reasonable to follow Christ with the promise that we can find all that we need if we simply love the Father with all that we are. It is work to do so. It is faith that fuels our ability and that too is given us by the Father. The Spirit will strive within us to know how to express love. Even when it seems foolish, hope can be what sustains us, but that, Dear Reader, is just a dead man’s opinion.

Wishing you joy in the journey,
